Volunteers help to fill a vital need at First Light by offering guests various activities that help them forget, even for a short time, that they are homeless and living in a shelter. Group activities conducted by volunteers may include:

Bible study and communion to nurture the guests' spiritual needs

Field trips to the ballet or a Birmingham Southern football game just for fun

A spa day at First Light with facials, manicures and massages

Arts and crafts activities, often with the purpose of helping the guests make gifts for loved ones

A talent show so that the guests can share their special talents with the whole group
We are so grateful to our volunteers for their creativity, time, resources and compassion for the women and children at First Light. Pictured below you see handbell ringers from Brookwood Baptist Church, girl scouts who brought fabric and made no-sew hats with the ladies, singers from the Junior League choral group who invite us to their dress rehearsals twice a year.
